Artist and teacher, Martin Varennes-Cooke, lives in Brighton, a city on the south Coast of England. He describes his work as “Illustrative, Colorful with a sense of fun. I usually scour the internet looking for subject matter and anything which will inspire, as my work is predominantly figurative I tend to get drawn to unusual faces/poses which can be combined with another element – be it my signature bird or in my most recent work – unusual and garish patterns. I then bring the two elements together with whatever medium I see fit. In most cases the subject matter itself will dictate whether a drawing or painting is the best approach."
