Porcupines are famous for their quills which are actually large stiff hairs that help defend the animals against natural predators. The quills are an agricultural by-product that has long been used as decor items. Each quill lampshade is handmade in Cape Town, South Africa with individual quills woven onto a frame with copper wire.
