Yang and Chang Yi, LIULI has grown from a modest workshop in Taiwan to Asia’s leading crystal art brand. Liuli is the phonetic spelling of the Han Dynasty term for glass art and is used to honor the Chinese heritage and culture. Records show that thousands of years ago, the Chinese were highly skilled in pâte de verre a.k.a lost wax casting but the craft was subsequently forgotten. Yang and Chang revived the craft and reintroduced it into the international arena.Today, LIULI has 41 galleries worldwide, and Loretta’s and Chang Yi’s artworks are collected at more than 35 museums around the world. The Dimple Paperweights are created in a small art glass factory located in the south-eastern point of Poland. Each paperweight is formed out of molten glass and then perforated with a tool to create the dimpling effect. Each piece is unique, so shape and color may vary.

In this exquisitely balanced crystal glass piece, many contrasts come into play as a vibrant and glowing art statement radiates with taste. Unique color blends (varying with every individual piece) contrast almost as sharply as the juxtaposed shapes and lines in the piece’s composition. Historically pervasive motifs of juxtaposing circles and squares are reminiscent of a Far East cultural aesthetic, while the central figures are sculpted in negative relief, hinting at grand opportunities and riches lying just beneath the surface.
