The Vine collection snatches inspiration from the imagery that floats around classic storytelling. The shapes are immediate and obvious, and yet, impressionistic and lyrical - the way a small child might envisage a story’s scene unfurling before them it conjures a creeping feeling, somehow seeming at once ancient and new. "For me, these vines evoke the overgrown entrance to an enchanted forest. They reference a surreal window to a world of fantasy-flora, and unexpected beauty." - Michael Aram.
The Michael Aram Botanical Leaf collection takes its inspiration from the intricacies of form and texture found in particular types of foliage. Reminiscent of eucalyptus and seagrape, the structure celebrates the twisting branches as much as it does the leaves. "The image of leaves and branches is eternal and has some kind of meaning for almost everyone. For me, the motif conjures a sense of freshness and fragility, while the materials and craftsmanship speak of something more robust, more human."
The Autumn Leaf collection is inspired by the perfectly imperfect geometry of nature The filigreed patterns of the leaf's skeleton structure suggest the end of its life cycle - marking the passage of time Autumn leaves give hope as they decay and return to the ground, nurturing the earth and fueling new beginnings. For me, leaves are a metaphor for life itself. They tell the story of nature as a whole, and of the circle of life. The structure of leaves, at once both delicate and strong, fascinates me. I wanted to celebrate each leaf as a reminder of the preciousness of life and of our place in the universe.

The New Leaves collection is a celebration of the beauty and meaning found in individual leaves. Inspired by specific types of foliage that have taken on sentimental meaning in Michael's life, this collection embodies his genuine passion for nature in its purest and most personal form. Each leaf has its own story, its symbolism, and its inherent wonder, detail, and shape. For the first time, Michael is also interpreting an entire collection of leaves in the proportions in which they occur in nature, amplifying the sense of realism for which he is so well known. While each leaf is expressed as a sculptural object, Michael has yet again managed to infuse function into his forms, making them perfect for the most elemental moments in our daily lives. "There are Champa or Frangipani trees in my garden and at my workshop in India. They are all over India. They are generally planted near Buddhist and Hindu Temples since they are considered spirit trees, highly symbolic of love and recreation. While the flowers are recognized for their beauty, gentle color transitions, and fragrance, it is the stiff, glossy leaf that intrigues me most. There is such strength in their regimented and perfected shapes."

This is a teacup saucer not an appetizer plate. I would have been spared an inquiry if it was identified correctly online. Having said that, it's lovely. The gray glaze has a texture that contributes to keeping the cup in the center. The pattern around the edge might bother some; it seems to go blurry. To me, it looks like a border.. Lady Whistledown.
