Crackle is a mouth-blown collection with a distinctive, organic look. It is made using a technique in which hot glass is cooled in ice-cold water. The meeting of hot and cold produces a crackled surface, hence the name, Crackle – reminding us of the incredible power possessed by fire and water as natural elements. The pieces in this collection were meant to be used: for serving, storage, for spending time with friends and family. Each piece in the collection can stand alone as a solo player, and they all work well together as a group.
“I have been inspired by the ability of glass to flow freely and in a playful way, yet it is strict and clean. In Twine, I have combined these two qualities into a vase which I think reflects the light in an exciting way so that it can be just as beautiful with or without flowers.” Glass is poured by hand over the mouth-blown vases to form an organic pattern.
The graphic pattern is reminiscent of the green fir trees and their dark trunks. They are inspired by the deep woods and countryside of Smaland. Crisp, green leaves, and colorful flowers combined with the graphic patterns on the vases make a glorious centerpiece on any table, whether in the living room or kitchen.

Back to basics. I wanted to create a classic, decorative and functional series that celebrates craftsmanship and the innate beauty of the glass.” Red Rim is hand-made in several steps. First, the first parison of lead-free crystal is rolled in powdered colour. The colour is then heated before the parison is blown into a shape that gives the molten glass its optical pattern. Clear glass is gathered over the parison to enclose the optical pattern in the glass, and then the glass is blown into its final form and shaped into a bowl or a vase. Finally, the piece is attached to a glass-blowing pipe and blown up a touch more before the red rim is applied from a colour rod.

Crackle and thunder – a magical wonder. At Kosta Boda, we marvel at beautifully preserved cracks in the glass. Crackle Vase XL from the Crackle collection has an expressive, sculptural exterior created using an old handscraft technique in which the hot glass is dipped in ice-cold water. The crackled surface reflects daylight and reveals its stories of fire, earth, and water. The vase is mouth-blown in Kosta.
