Nazmiyal Collection
A closely arrayed pattern of Persian rug origin using paired ‘Boteh’ or Paisley design forms in a range of rich colors repeats as an allover design across the field of this dazzling antique English Wilton carpet. The main border consists of lush palmettes arranged in a connected linear or vertical sequence as a ‘candelabra’ pattern on an ivory ground, with various smaller borders of simpler vine scrolls. The coloration like the design itself is closely related to luxurious embroidered Kashmir shawls, which may actually have served as the immediate models for this carpet.
Here is a truly unique antique tapestry - an antique tapestry that was woven in the United States of America around the turn of the twentieth century. While the art of tapestry weaving is a centuries-old tradition in Europe, it is a craft that has only rarely been practiced in the USA. This is one of the things that makes this amazing antique tapestry a truly magnificent example. Signed with a subtle “B NY” near the lower left-hand portion of the composition, this antique textile features a beautiful, classical depiction of a garden, with a comely building of pink standing slightly off-center in the background. The richness of the detail here is difficult to overstate: Impeccably woven trees and flowers dominate the piece, but everything that has been included in the composition is also precisely drawn. The overall effect that this antique tapestry achieves is one of deep and lingering beauty. It superficially resembles a painting but bears all of the hallmarks of an expertly woven tapestry. A unique and beautiful work of art, this antique tapestry from the turn of the century America is a miraculous example.

A Beautiful Floral Design Antique Ivory Oversized American Hooked Rug, Country of Origin: United States, Circa 1920 — Rug hooking first appeared in the New England states of the USA in the mid-1800. During that time, colonial women would use scraps of old clothing, bed linens, and curtains to create hand-hooked rugs for their homes. At the beginning of the 20th century, this art once again became popular and remained so through the 1930. It was considered a part of the Arts and Crafts movement and often made its way into Craftsman-style homes. These antique rugs accented the fine woods used on the floors of homes in this architectural style.
This stunning antique English carpet has a highly unusual Medieval pattern of scalloped quatrefoils and broad strapwork bands. This stunning antique rug stands in a long tradition of English needlepoint rugs going back to Elizabethan times. A highly unusual Medieval pattern of scalloped qua-trefoils linked by broad strap work bands occupies the field. Small floral designs fill the spaces within the larger pattern. A thin border provides a nice contrast to the monumental design of the field. The colors are soft, adding to the decorative effect of the design, but the dark ground provides dramatic contrast, accenting the decorative details.
