LIULI Crystal Art
The vermillion bird represents the element fire, the color vermilion red, the southern direction, and summer. The Shan Hai Jing describes the phoenix as being born on Dan Mountain. Also called the Dan Phoenix. The phoenix also refers to one of exceptional talent and was born in a south-facing valley at the South Pole, and symbolizes talent and lofty aspirations. The vermillion bird is said to bring prosperity, progeny, and peace. Vermilion red is also a celebratory color in traditional Asian culture for weddings and new business openings. This piece is an ingenious juxtaposition of detail and sparseness, color and transparency, space and form. The vermillion bird appears like the blazing sun, distant yet near, forever shining, representing our deepest wishes. The nature of glass transports the light and presents a space for imagination to spark. Associated with the four quadrants of the vault of heaven is the Azure dragon of the East, the Vermillion bird of the South, the white tiger of the West, and the black tortoise of the North; in the center is the Qilin (unicorn). Each region corresponds to one of the five elements: Metal (west), wood (east), water (north), fire (south), and earth (center). Moving across the night sky, the stars connect all life to the five elements. When the universe and elements are aligned, harmony ensues.
Rendered in liuli crystal, leaves and fish become stars of the show, complementing each other. Lotus leaves symbolize harmony, goldfish means abundance and good luck, this design creates an elegant movement of pure beauty in life. Two fish are presented in negative carving, but the polished surface on lotus leaves is used to show their movement and expression in the water. The process of sculpting is particularly complicated. The sculpture of the fish and the positioning need to be done prior to the prototype, then join two fish sculptures on the prototype with reiteration on the details of the junction being smooth and organic.
This design depicts the dragon in natural repose as it winds around to form a taichi and conveys its power. The dragon’s head emerges with a persistent gaze as it safeguards the natural order in a way only it can command. Liuli absorbs and reflects light across varying sculptural depths and polished surfaces to convey the dragon’s internal power. The design as a whole is built upon Daoist philosophy: From taichi, two complementary forces are born; from two complementary forces, four aggregates are born; from four aggregates, eight trigrams are born. This is also symbolic of the dragon - a mythical beast that unites all with the power of the sun under the natural order. In the vast universe, the sun is the source of all life. With the dragon, it nurtures and guides the world in harmonious coexistence.IntentionAir - without form, form - without shape, elusive yet heavy with significance.Twisting and turning, going with the flow, with opportunity, with a raised head -that is how we move.Item No.:PEA134.ADACASize:7.8”W * 3.8”D* 8.1”H inchesMaterial:Crystal Glass
The circular polished center is the focal point of the design. It is like the surface of a clear pool, and also like a magnifying glass that shows two fish’s movements. It seems two fish are swimming together leisurely, and enjoying their respective joy at the same time. From the front view, it’s when you dive into the water and watch fish swim and see everything clearly from the seafloor- the Taihu rock stands up tall, fish swims in between; on the other hand, the polished surface recreates an experience of viewing from atop of the water. These two perspectives were combined into one design, making the artwork more interesting to view. In a nutshell, when appreciating things from different perspectives, we may be able to release ourselves from boundaries or physical limits and reach intellectual freedom. Joyful harmony a majestic mountain, a limpid pool, the heart is limitless. Like a shadow to the form, the sun and moon mirror each other in joyful harmony.
Just a stunning piece--the depth of color is gorgeous. Very intricate detail but heavy and stable.. Rebecca. Phoenix, MD. 2022-02-20 11:49:42
"Pure Heart Revolution" is a collectible miniature LIULI glass prayer wheel, a piece of Zen home décor ideal for display and use. The sandblasted frame of this meditation décor bears a Tang Dynasty floral motif, and the Heart Sutra is engraved on the crystal prayer wheel itself. It is a concise text on the form and formlessness of being that has long been studied by seekers of wisdom. Though quite elusive to human understanding, it is the most influential of Buddhist sutras. The prayer wheel seems to come alive in a radiant blaze when spun near a source of light, brightening your home and helping you navigate this world of confusion with an unsullied heart.Pure Heart RevolutionHeart Sutra on LIULI Prayer WheelEmbrace a pure heart, expel emptiness and delusion. At your side, benevolence and wisdom,as your dreamscycle into perpetual repetition.Item No.:PED262.ADAAZColor:ClearSize:4.13"L x 1.77"D x 5.91"H inchesMaterial:Crystal Glass
Made in the shape of an ancient Chinese gold ingot, this tabletop ornament symbolizes good luck in wealth and fortune. Crafted with precision, the piece utilizes an auspicious and culturally traditional shape with a loose-set crystal ball to bring good balance in life.---------------------Founded in 1987 by studio glass artists Loretta H. Yang and Chang Yi, LIULI has grown from a modest workshop in Taiwan to Asia’s leading crystal art brand. Liuli is the phonetic spelling of the Han Dynasty term for glass art and is used to honor the Chinese heritage and culture. Records show that thousands of years ago, the Chinese were highly skilled in pâte de verre a.k.a lost wax casting but the craft was subsequently forgotten. Yang and Chang revived the craft and reintroduced it into the international arena.Today, LIULI has 41 galleries worldwide, and Loretta’s and Chang Yi’s artworks are collected at more than 35 museums around the world. These include the Victoria and Albert museum in London, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., and the Bowers Museum in Orange County. Glass beads have been made for centuries throughout Africa. Using a technique that has been handed down from generation to generation, our makers begin by compressing glass into a dry grain, and heating the grain so that the pieces form together. The recycled glass is rushed into a porcelain cast. The stem of a cassava leaf is used to make the hole. The beads are baked in a furnace causing the glass to melt together and cassava stem to burn, leaving only the grainy textured "sandglass" bead behind. Our makers are members of Ghana's Krobo Tribe in Western Africa. Beads have played an important role in the cultural life of many communities throughout the Continent of Africa, and remain to this day a symbol of wealth and a form of currency.
This is the opaque color beads. Absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful art sculpture. Well-made unique. Love it!. Patti. Greenwell Springs, LA. 2022-09-13 18:35:00
Drawing from the meditative wisdom of Buddhism, Loretta H. Yang’s Tranquil Heart lotus flower represents the transcendence of worry and achievement of purity. The lotus blossoms by rising through mud, symbolizing purity and flawless peace. This exceptional type of beauty comes from within, a power of cleansing the heart and freeing oneself from negativity. That purity is embodied in this glass piece, an artwork that expertly uses transparency to its advantage and expression.

This artistic rendition of a vase symbol comes from the “Ashtamangala” or “The Eight Fortunes”. The artwork here is among eight others in the mini-series “Eight Auspicious Offerings” that alludes to ancient literature endemic to Buddhism as well as Jainism and Hinduism. The vase itself incorporates the message of infinite lessons and teachings in life and represents the luck of longevity, wealth, health, and wisdom. In glasswork interpretation, the art piece radiates an illuminating aura of golden amber, carved in exquisite details of low relief. Like the gentle sun’s warmth loyally and steadfastly rising to greet the horizon of the morning. Breath baited with the hope and anticipation of a new day and all the possibilities it can bring. Amber light rays slowly disperse and spread across the earth. Warming and welcoming her companion. The crystal lotus in feng shui is known to assist in reversing the tide of negative energy and misfortune while promoting inner serenity and contentment. The lotus, called ‘Lian Hua’ in Chinese, is one of the eight symbols of the Ashtamangala. All symbols of Ashtamangala represent aspects or ideas behind enlightenment and are commonly used to convey various modalities and concepts. Using the crystal lotus in feng shui is also said to help to promote healthy and balanced family relationships within the home. In feng shui, it is recommended to place your crystal lotus sculpture in a central room for the greatest result, specifically in the living room. It can also be placed adjacent to or near a window to channel the light and positive energy that flows and exists always around and surrounding us like the warm embrace and caring arms of a loved one. “The lotus flower blooms most beautifully from the deepest and thickest mud” – Buddhist Proverb.
