Kelly Colchin is an artist in Austin, Texas who loves big skies, the free spirits of her kids, and all things handmade - especially breakfast tacos. Both of Kelly's paternal grandparents were artists and she learned how to watercolor from her grandmother while sitting at her kitchen table. She spent most of her career in advertising as an art director, but has always loved painting and drawing, and recently made the shift to making art full time. She usually starts a project by sketching, journaling, and pulling together her thoughts. She immerses herself in the project and then steps away from an idea to let it steep before putting pen to paper. She mostly works in watercolor and she loves that it is such a quick and unforgiving medium. It forces you to fully commit to every stroke and be accepting of every accident. This is a great lesson for life. Kelly is inspired by nature and objects from the past- vintage textiles, old patterns, things forgot.
