In the artwork "To Be Dragon" not only is a complete "descended from the heavens" dragon presented in high and low relief, but also around the dragon's body, the scrolling vines and curves soar and grow towards the edges. Within the circle, the amber-colored flowing lines transition from the center outward, symbolizing the brilliance of the sky. The dragon's posture is agile, with round eyes and a slightly open mouth, embodying grace within compassion. The artwork transitions from shallow to high relief within the circle, and each piece is meticulously crafted by skilled sculptors with over a decade of experience, following detailed blueprints to faithfully recreate it.

This design depicts the dragon in natural repose as it winds around to form a taichi and conveys its power. The dragon’s head emerges with a persistent gaze as it safeguards the natural order in a way only it can command. Liuli absorbs and reflects light across varying sculptural depths and polished surfaces to convey the dragon’s internal power. The design as a whole is built upon Daoist philosophy: From taichi, two complementary forces are born; from two complementary forces, four aggregates are born; from four aggregates, eight trigrams are born. This is also symbolic of the dragon - a mythical beast that unites all with the power of the sun under the natural order. In the vast universe, the sun is the source of all life. With the dragon, it nurtures and guides the world in harmonious coexistence.IntentionAir - without form, form - without shape, elusive yet heavy with significance.Twisting and turning, going with the flow, with opportunity, with a raised head -that is how we move.Item No.:PEA134.ADACASize:7.8”W * 3.8”D* 8.1”H inchesMaterial:Crystal Glass
This design shows a dragon emerging from the sea, symbolic of emergence, rising power, success, bravery, and boldness. The well-balanced yet assertive shape of the wave seen here compliments the fine details of the rising expression—confident and righteous.
The dragon represents the eastern direction and the color blue; it’s also associated with the element wood, since trees absorb the positive energy of heaven and earth, lending them the dragon-like qualities of strength, majesty, and longevity. The dragon is powerful, dignified, honorable, and embodies an inextinguishable spirit. In this design, the dragon’s scales and claws shift with the casual motion of its elegant form. The head is raised, the body soars into the auspicious clouds; the tail rises upwards with power and poise, and was the most challenging part to cast. Overall, this piece conveys a palpable sense of aspiration and latent energy. Associated with the four quadrants of the vault of heaven is the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North; in the center is the Qilin (unicorn). Each region corresponds to one of the five elements: metal (west), wood (east), water (north), fire (south), and earth (center). Moving across the night sky, the stars connect all life to the five elements. When the universe and elements are aligned, harmony ensues.
The grandest design from 2012, Year of the Dragon, by Loretta H. Yang and our artists at the Liuli studio. This immense sculpture, over half a year in the making, uses tremendously fine detail and underwent over forty percent failure rate when firing in the kiln. Pouring together the efforts of over a dozen artists and laborers, this crystal glass dragon was designed to express might, courage and nobility in a way no other dragon could. Sumptuous golden amber colors are used to amplify light for a resplendent look. Its arms reach out to the heavens and the Earth in a way that speaks, “My power is the sky and ground combined—my strength is unlimited."
Azure Dragon represents the element wood, the eastern direction, the spring season. East is where the Sun rises, therefore dragon epitomizes rising to eminence, and the ability to readily grasp the overall situation. The dragon’s body progressively loops from front to back, creating a sense of interlaced time and space. Gripped in the dragon’s hand are the sun, an object of worship since ancient times, and a traditional symbol of peace, longevity, and well-being. Superimposed on the dragon is a swirling auspicious Ruyi cloud, representing good luck and prosperity. forming a distinctive contrast with the detailed representation of the dragon itself. Supreme emperor of all mythical creatures, the dragon is depicted here in all its glory. Odyssey Across Heaven and Earth portray a dragon in motion, its sinuous coils twisting over a shining arc which is at once the base of the sculpture and an abstract representation of the sky above and the ground below. The dragon is thus traveling across heaven and earth. Most of the color is concentrated in the dragon's body, which is clearly separated from the polished arc. The slender, upraised tail of this crystal dragon figurine adds an additional element of difficulty to an already exacting design. The power and beauty of the dragon are symbols of strength and faith.
The Qilin represents the element earth and the central position, and is frequently depicted in yellow; hence it is also known as the Golden Qilin. The lifespan of this mythical creature is said to be two thousand years. The male is called qi, and the female lin; both are a composite of a deer, horse, cow, and fish. The Qilin is noted for its gentle disposition, and is so benevolent that it carefully avoids treading on greenery of any kind. A traditional symbol of prosperity, the Qilin is said to bring bumper crops and progeny. The Qilin in this piece is embedded within a hollow sphere representing the universe, and is depicted leaping out of the water, with its bushy mane flying in the wind. It’s resolute expression and dynamic posture exude confidence and strength.Associated with the four quadrants of the vault of heaven are the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North; in the center is the Qilin (unicorn).
