Artist Commentary: I have been exploring several new subjects recently and I'm enjoying learning the intricacies of each. I set up a piece of paper on my easel and was preparing to sketch out the next painting in a series I'm working on. But, once again, the ocean pulled me back and that's how what should have been a still life of tangerines became 'March Madness' instead.
Artist Commentary: I never get tired of painting marshes and estuaries. This one was painted from my imagination and I really enjoyed responding spontaneously to my canvas.
Artist Commentary: This painting is the genesis behind my upcoming solo land and seascape show titled "Serene." This photo reference was from a picture I took in the Algarve in Portugal. It was great to revisit that area 36 years later!
Artist Commentary: One of my absolute favorite subjects to paint is a marsh or estuary. There is something magical about painting them. I love a realistic marsh painting but am enjoying the process of making them more abstract in nature. This marsh was created from memory which helped me to keep it loose.
Artist Commentary: Watching waves, hiking, traveling, being out on a boat with friends, painting....all these activities put me in a free spirit kind of mood. As I was observing this wave, it built up very slowly and seemed to be doing its own thing and I remember thinking 'we've got a free spirit in this wave.' But then, instead of going completely rogue, it rolled into itself and crashed, as waves tend to do.
