Artist Commentary: I love the magnificent rock outcroppings along the California coast line. My five minute ‘stretch-my-legs’ Break as I made my way from Northern to Southern California turned into a 30 minute visual exploration with hundreds of photos. So worth it!
Artist Commentary: I have been exploring several new subjects recently and I'm enjoying learning the intricacies of each. I set up a piece of paper on my easel and was preparing to sketch out the next painting in a series I'm working on. But, once again, the ocean pulled me back and that's how what should have been a still life of tangerines became 'March Madness' instead.
Artist Commentary: This painting is the genesis behind my upcoming solo land and seascape show titled "Serene." This photo reference was from a picture I took in the Algarve in Portugal. It was great to revisit that area 36 years later!
Artist Commentary: I remember lying on the grass as a kid with my friends and trying to find the animal and other identifiable shapes in the clouds. I guess I could say that I've always been intrigued by clouds and known to very often pull off the highway to take pictures of them. And so begins another series for me. This painting happens to be focused solely on the sky but I suspect future paintings will incorporate a bit of land or sea while working to maintain the sky as the main attraction.
Artist Commentary: I never get tired of painting marshes and estuaries. This one was painted from my imagination and I really enjoyed responding spontaneously to my canvas.
Artist Commentary: **This painting is professionally framed in a 2" warm silver frame with conservation glass and backing** This painting was from a photo I took in Acadia National Park in the summer of 2017. If you've never been there, it is a real treat and a must see for nature lovers! This painting really conveys the mist that comes in at the ocean in the morning.
Artist Commentary: This wave was one I painted as part of my "Up Close And Personal" series where my goal was to bring the viewer deeper and deeper into the belly of a wave with each painting I did. Someone told me they literally could feel the spray from this one. Mission Accomplished!
Artist Commentary: I have thousands of wave photo references but I tend to gravitate back to this one often. Once in a while, I'll take a photo that makes my heart beat just a little bit faster and this is one of those photos. I'm not even sure where the original photo is these days but it is definitely seared in my memory. Sometimes I paint tiny 2x3 paintings of this and limit myself to 25 strokes. Other times I go big like I did in this painting.
