Artist Lisa Tear was born in Los Angeles, CA, and lived in Arizona from her early teens to college age. She graduated from the University of CA, Irvine, Cum Laude, with a double major in art and psychology. Lisa moved to San Diego in 1980. She has been active in art and painting her entire life. Working in the commercial interior design business for over 25 years, she continued to paint in her spare time while raising her two boys. Now, Lisa is a full-time artist, using her unique process of layering thin acrylic glazes to create colors and textures on canvas, wood, and metal. Much of her inspiration comes from her love of nature and Lisa gets joy by bringing her creations to enhance people’s lives.

I was born in the Foothills of California, a small town called Tuolumne, fairly close to Yosemite National Park. I studied textile design and oil painting. I studied at a local community college back home and at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise. Art has a lot of meaning for me. It’s a way of communicating, expressing myself, and connecting myself to my thoughts and others. I find inspiration mainly from nature and emotions. I like to use all mediums, but my favorites are oil, acrylic, and watercolor. I enjoy being outdoors, playing music, painting, singing, writing, and being with friends.

Alexys Henry grew up in both Phoenix and New York, influenced by dramatic shifts in both cultural and physical environments. As a child, the long clear expanses of snow-covered fields broken by patches of overgrown trees and half-frozen streams captivated her and continue to influence her imagery. Henry moved to Berkeley, California in 2002. “There I found myself drawn to everyday details such as cracks in walls and layers of peeling paint and poster paper. Nature flourishes alongside urban decay. For me, this is the backdrop of a duplicitous sense of danger as well as hope and community.” From there, Henry’s brief time in Seattle deeply influenced her seascapes.
