The classic Bokhara rug is woven in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Also known as Afghan rugs, are popular for their thick hand-knotted texture, heavy pile, and attractive colors (burgundy, red, dark blue/navy, black or brown with ivory undertones). Their designs consist of repeating octagonal Guls (elephant’s foot), conjoined rhombus medallions, or floral patterns. Bokhara rug's shape, colors, and designs vary and these differences were used to identify the source of the rug.
