Originally, a harness was looped around the neck of these rare canteens and hung from the camel's saddle. The thick terra cotta kept the water cool for hours in the desert. No two are alike. Mounted on an iron stand.

• These are 100+-year-old water pots that were carried on camels for their handlers. So chips are a part of the wonderful character of these.

The statue is gorgeous. It is NOT A SATYR (which has goat horns and legs of a horse). This is likely Bacchus (Roman) or Dionysus (Greek). It is stunning and perfect for my collection of statuary. Lifelike! We cast some of our favorite pieces of splinter stone and made two repeatable sets that look and feel like the originals. We used a concrete and resin composite which feels cool to the touch. The casting allows for a consistent base shape throughout the collection too.

Update: I changed this review to one star. Maitland Smith apparently won’t provide the label of authenticity, and Perigold cs doesn’t seem bothered. If you’re a MS collector, beware. The figurine itself is lovely. However, it came without the signature Maitland Smith label of authenticity. I've tried to reach out to Perigold to ask about this but there's been no response.
