I searched high & low for just the right table to put in my new home. Since I have dark wood built-in cabinets on either side of the fireplace, I didn’t want anything wood. And since I tend to move my coffee table around a lot, glass would get prints all over. My front door is iron and my floors are travertine so I knew an iron base with stone top would be perfect. I saw several tables on several sites but this one stole my heart. Perfect color, perfect size (albeit, rather heavy!) and just the right style. It looks exactly like the pictures and top quality. Layne 42" Round Coffee Table Light Brown
I purchased the Layne 42” Round Coffee Table from Perigold. It was originally listed for $1249. The “list price” of $1249 does not match the quality of the piece. This piece is a hollow drum; it is plywood covered in a very thin (max 1-2 mm thick) wood veneer. It would easily chip. In fact, mine did come chipped. I purchased an “open box” at a price of $799. More reasonable, but still steep. When it was delivered, the veneer was already chipped. Perigold then offered us a discount due to the damage. That made the price much more reasonable for what you get. It was inconvenient, but we were able to fix the damage with super glue. I knew the table would easily scratch and continue to chip if I didn’t protect it with something. So, after repairing it, I applied 4 coats of Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane water based matte clear finish to the entire table with a foam brush. I used an entire quart. I would not order this table without planning to apply a clear coat of some type. It will likely get damaged/scratched over time if not. On a positive note, I really love the way it looks in my living room. The size is perfect, I love the color and I love the modern/clean lines of the piece. There are wheels on the bottom; it will roll pretty easily if you put your feet up too forcefully. You could always add wheel stoppers. I like the wheels because it makes it easy to clean around and move the table when needed. Overall, I love the table, but I would not recommend purchasing it at the steep list price of $1249. A more appropriate price is $300-500, especially considering I had to add a protective finish myself.. Madison. AZ. 2024-09-30 10:13:35
